FALL 2009 NEWSLETTER AND CLASS LIST

Dear Quilters,

Hope you all had a restful and happy summer and are looking forward to all that autumn brings: football, apples, crisp colored leaves ……….you’ll find lots to enjoy at EMQ! Read on for news from the partners plus all the new classes.

For Those of you trying to organize your work space, here’s a helpful opportunity: EMQ will have a quilter’s yard sale on Sept. 19 from 9:30 am till 3 pm. No clothes please, just craft-related items. You are invited to purchase a vendor’s spot for $5. Please price your own items. We are requesting that vendors bring their own tables; early signups may be able to borrow a table – pease contact Kathy at the shop. Remember: “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”

Football season starts on Sept. 14 and EMQ will celebrate with weekly Monday Night Football sales. Stop in the shop between 5:30 and 8:30 pm to choose a football and find out your discount. There are new fabrics arriving weekly. Come check them out, take advantage of the savings, and be home in time to watch the game!

ALSO, it’s not too early to reserve your spot in the APPLIQUE CLUB. Starting in October, on the second Thurs. of each month at 10 am or
6:30 pm, there will be free patterns, tips, show and tell, fabric exchanges, featured designers, and more. The $20 annual fee will entitle you to all the fun!

Chris’s news from the classroom: Our machine quilting classes with Ruth Ohol were great, with lots of information and inspiration. In October we’ll begin a new applique club, where beginners and seasoned stitchers alike can share tips, designs, techniques, time together, and more. We will also be starting a block of the month project; the starting date depends on arrival time of the fabrics (sumptuous earthy florals from Jason Yenter). Once again we have some new talented teachers on our class roster, so we hope you can join us for the fun. Coming in November is a program on redwork and its history with author Phyllis Rudz. More details on this to follow. And thanks so much to our generous quilting fairies for their donations to our classroom tool collection. We love you too!

Lanna’s news from the kitchen: After lots of shop time and two vacation trips, to Nova Scotia and Arizona, I’m gearing up for school as well as planning some new recipes for the shop. Stop by and try the samples! I plan to have muffins and fudge available starting Labor Day, and this fall I’ll have “Gifts from the Kitchen”, including soup mixes, mugs with cocoa, and more, so stop in for a fast and tasty gift. Don’t forget you can place an order ahead of time if you need cookies for a party or meeting. Just call the shop and leave me a message.

Kathy’s news from the shop floor: Where, oh where did summer go? The sales floor is really taking on a fall and ho;iday look. We have some beautiful Christmas panels, spooky Halloween, and striking fall assortment of yard goods, plus new French roosters. My favorite pattern for creating a quick lap quilt for the holidays is “Yellow Brick Road”. It takes 6 fat quarters and 1 ½ yd. for border and binding. What a warm and thoughtful gift you can make, especially from our flannels. Table runners are a quick and easy project and we have the neatest batting for them and placemats (18” wide). I look forward to seeing you all soon; the coffee pot is always on!
