Knit and Crochet for KIDS!

There is a new program being offered by the Olean Public Library’s Children’s Department! Knit and Crochet for KIDS!

They meet the FIRST Thursday of the month starting October 1, 2009 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. They will begin learning to knit in the autumn months and will progress to crochet. If you know how to knit, bring a project you are working on.

The children’s group will periodically come and visit the adult crochet & knitting group that meets in the library on the same night. We will all do a “show & tell” about the projects we are working on!

DISHRAG PATTERN

There was much discussion about patterns for dishrags at September’s meeting. Here’s an easy pattern:

from: DISHRAG PATTERN FOR BEGINNERS

REQUIREMENTS
1 ball of knit worsted weight cotton (Sugar N’ Cream) 50 gm size
Size 9 to 10 1/2 needles

DIRECTIONS
Cast on 4 sts.

Row 1: Knit one row.

Row 2: K2, YO, knit to the end of the row.

Repeat row 2 until there are 40 sts (for dish scrubber) or 50 sts (for face
cloth).

Next row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, knit to the end of the row.

Continue decreasing until 4 sts left. Cast off.

September’s Crochet & Knitting Group Meeting

Seven members attended September’s meeting. We donated 52 baby hats to the Olean General Hospital and 17 squares to WarmUp! America.

Members discussed expanding which charities we contribute to, so please comment to this post if you have any ideas.
